Workshops of the French network on system dynamics of the SDS
Journées d'études
Réseau Français de Dynamique des Systèmes
Rennes, 19 – 20 juin 2026
Since J.W. Forrester's pioneering work in the 1950s and 1960s and the publication of the famous Limits to Growth report (1972), systems dynamics has been enriched by what Anglo-Saxons call a “library.” This term encompasses scientific publications, models, and case studies found in many disciplines (biology, ecology, management, urban planning, etc.). The 1990s saw the emergence of the System Dynamics Society (SDS) and the organization of international conferences alternating between North America and Europe. Some disciplines (economics) still struggle to grant system dynamics the status of a scientific method, and some countries (France) report a significant lag in training and research in system dynamics.
Since 2024, France has had a chapter in the System Dynamics Society. This French systems dynamics network brings together researchers, teachers, public sector project managers, and engineers from the business world. Its LinkedIn network, with nearly 630 members, aims to popularize systems dynamics through the organization of videoconferences and the creation of a library of case studies. Every year, a summer school held in Laschamps (63000) offers certified training for anyone wishing to familiarize themselves with the concepts and acquire modeling skills. Building on this experience, the French network of the System Dynamics Society plans to organize its first event at the IAE of the University of Rennes on Friday, June 19, and Saturday, June 20, 2026. One day will be devoted to communications and half a day (Saturday morning) to the life and dynamics of the network.
Access to the event is free, but participants must register by selecting the €0 option. Only those who wish to have lunch and dinner are required to pay €40 (On the registration page, click on the number of accompanying persons, select 0 if you are not eating, 1 if you are eating - the amount of 40 euros will appear).
Information about the organization of the study days can be requested from Thi Le Hoa Vo (thi-le-hoa.vo@univ-rennes.fr) and Arnaud Diemer (arnaud.diemer@uca.fr).
All information relating to the organization of this event (submission of presentations) is available on the sciencesconf website: https://dynasystems.sciencesconf.org
The conference will take place at the IGR-IAE Rennes, 11 rue Jean Macé, 35708 Rennes Cedex.
